Homeland Security Clarifies ‘REAL ID’ Requirements

UNITED STATES — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has updated the information on its website regarding the upcoming requirement for enhanced identification needed to board domestic airline flights, an agency official said.

This newspaper reported on the “REAL ID” parameters in its Jan. 2 edition based on information on dhs.gov. However, a review of the site revealed that information changed between the time the story was researched and its publication.

“You will need either your state’s REAL ID-compliant license, U.S. passport, passport card, tribal ID, or TSA trusted traveler card” to board domestic flights as of Oct. 1, 2020,” Sari Koshetz, a regional spokesperson for Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration, explained on Jan. 7.

All those forms are REAL ID-compliant, Koshetz added.
